Gary Taylor

Captain Gary Taylor is a nationally recognized fly fishing guide and licensed charter boat captain with more than 40 years fly fishing experience in the lower 48 states, Alaska, Mexico, the Bahamas, Canada and Australia. He has received numerous awards in recognition of his guiding and outfitting skills, including the 1993/1994 Orvis Guide of the Year award. He was the founder of an outfitting business that pioneered the use of MacKenzie River Drift Boats on the wild and scenic Hiwassee River in Reliance, Tennessee and was the first Orvis Endorsed Guide, outfitter and lodge operator in the Southeast. Gary led a major effort to restore native brook trout populations in the Southern Appalachians and assisted in establishing the first Tennessee trophy fishing zone on the Hiwassee River. He has guided clients to many different species of fish in a variety of water types since he received his first guide license for trout in Idaho.

Gary was a charter member of the Hiwassee Chapter of HiHhAppalachian Trout Unlimited where he has served as the Appalachian TU news letter editor and as Appalachian TU President. Captain Taylor is certified as a Certified Master Casting Instructor by the Federation of Fly Fishers. He and his wife, Wanda, have been featured in Saltwater Sportsman, Fly Fishing Saltwaters, Sporting Classics Magazine, Outdoor Life, Fly Fisherman, Fly Rod & Reel, Jacksonville Woman Magazine, Georgia Magazine, Angler’s Journal, Fly Fish America and Air Canada enRoute Magazine.
